EVALUATION activity 1

The 9 frame grid shows different shot of my final product.
Frame 1
Shows the font that i've used in my entire project and it also show the names of the logos i've used in my opening sequence.

Frame 2
This shows the costume that the actress (Verinica Mihaleva) is wearing she plays the girl that gets abused by her father.

Frame 3
This frame shows the place that has been used for to film the outside scene and it shows clearly that the grown up girl (Connie Yaneva) is coming out of a work place and it is infirmary.

Frame 4
Shows that the place where the victim (Mimi Zaharieva) walk is a creepy dark place and there are no people around also she is wearing high hill so it means she wouldn't be able to run of she gets attacked by someone.

Frame 5
The attack is happening by the grown up girl (Connie Yaneva) and it clearly shows by the victim dropping her back on the floor

Frame 6
This frame shows the props that i've used in my third scene. These are the make up and the jewelry.

Frame 7
The frame shows the costume of the grown up girls (Connie Yaneva) and a little part of the victim (Mimi Zaharieva). Also it shows that the gils that has been abused by her dad has those plats and the same rosary that she wore when she was younger.

Frame 8
Shows the make up of the victim which shows that she was dressed up as a doll and she was played by the grown up girl as she wasn't real

Frame 9
Is the title that i was thinking of for quiet long because i couldn't decide which one would suit the movie best. At the end i though that 'THE GAME' will be the best because its simple and it keeps the idea of the movie stay behind.

EVALUATION activity 2

For the role of a girl who is looks young and innocent i chose Veronica because her facial expression just gives this childish innocent look which was the exact thing i needed to have. Its the same like the girl that played in 'The Orphan' she looked young and innocent and it turned out that she wasn't at all but my opening sequence and the movie not the same thing but it has similar basics such as the look of the girl which is similar to my look of the girl.

EVALUATION activity 3

This is the final video with the voice over:

This video explains the bits of the video which tell you what are the shot that I've used or talking about the place where i was filming. This will give you a clearer vision about this movie because the start of it is quiet confusing but i think that the comments that I've made are very helpful.

What does a production company do?
This is the company that produced films in which case is "Clock Production UK' that produced my film. To make sure I have mentioned this logo somewhere in my movie i decided to put it right in the front of the movie.

The idea of distributor and who that might be and why?
Distributors are the companies that distribute your film in ways such as DVD, Theaters, Cinemas, TV or internet. This makes your movie either become really popular or just be at the bottom of everyone. I've used "clock production UK' even though its a small budget company it still has chances of getting this movie in good rates.

Where the money might have come from for a film such-as yours?
D.A.S.H pictures provided me through the whole time of me making the movie also i borrowed money from a bank so that if i had to deal with something on my own i would have money.

The order of the titles:
- Clock Production UK and D.A.S.H pictures PRESENT
-Directed by DASHA TITOVA
-Written by XENIA TELUNC
-Produced by BOBY YANEVA
-Executive producer LAURANE MURPHY
-Co-producer JANICE MA
-Starring CONNIE YANEVA
-MIMI ZAHARIEVA
-VERONICA MIHALEVA
-And ALASTAIR GREEN
-Edited by DASHA TITOVA
-Casting by KIM BRADBURY
-Costume designer CHARLOTTE WOODWARD
-Music supervisor KIM BATES
-THE GAME

EVALUATION activity 4

The audience for my media product will be:

This is Beatrix Bertha she is 16 years and 6 month old she is in year 11 in a boarding school in hertford she was born in Germany and her parents sent her to school in England. She loves to live in England on short half terms she would never go back to Germany and stay in England with her friends. She loves shopping in London in shops like TopShop, River Island, H&M, Accessorise and Urban Outfitters. She loves to hand around with her friends go to home parties. On the weekend she would go to the cinema at least once. Her favorite movies are 'The Orphan', 'The Ting 1', 'The Ring 2', 'Scream 1,2,3,4' and all the others in this kind of genre.
She like to watch TV shows and episodes like 'Skins', 'Gossip Girl', 'Inbetweeners', 'Family Guy', 'Two Men and a Half' and so on.
She listens to Ellie Goulding, The Black Eyed Peas, Daft Punk, Adele, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kanye West and so on.
I think that my movie will be the something that she would love to watch because if you go through all the things she likes and looks like she will enjoy to watch something like my movie. In my research I used the same movies that are her favorite, therefore, she will be pleased after she watches my movie.

EVALUATION activity 5

How did you address your target audience ?

This is the interview I've taken with my friend Francesca Long she is 16 years and 10 moths old. She goes to my school but had never seen any of the drafts of my opening sequence. I showed her the final product and i prepared several question. Francesca knew that i was going to interview her but i didn't tell her what questions i've got because i wanted to hear her first reaction on my opening sequence

EVALUATION activity 6

These are the pictures of me using the technologies that i learned how to use by making this opening sequence.

And these are the programs that i've used in this project.

EVALUATION activity 7

Match on Action shots (1 and 2)

                             1

                            2

180 degree rule (3 and 4)

                              3

                             4

There are not many shots because my first ever made video doesn't have many shots at all but i found 3 shots that i could talk about.
The first two shots are match on action shots, these show how the door would be open in the same way as in my movie
The other one is the 180 degree rule which is a really important rule and if you break this rule you will be able to see the camera that is filming on the other side and if it happens and there are two people talking it will just look like they are talking to themselves .

Health And Safety

There are not many thing to mansion about health and safety. In the first scene i've got the dad carrying the girl so i had to make sure that he could pick her up so that no one got hurt and both of them could come through the door at the place where i was filming the scene. The when he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her we had to try it out so that it didn't harm the actress.
The outside scene had two different parts where we had to do thing carefully and try it out before doing it. The first one was when the victim was walking on the pavement and she was wearing high hills so we had to be careful when she was walking. The second shot was when the grown up girl attacked the victim and she had to drag her behind the car which was dangerous too so before filming it we did it several time to make sure it would go well when i will be filming it.

Rating

My film will be rated as 15

This film will be rated 15 because it has violence and inappropriate language therefore this kind of movie is not supposed to shown to teenager who are under 15 years old.
I didn't rate it 12 or 18 because if it was 12 i would have to cut out lots of scenes which will change the whole story which is about violence and it is physiological movie too so therefore it should not be shown to teenagers who are under 15. If i rated it 18 it will loose the popularity and no one would watch to watch it because these kind of movies are made for teenagers to get scared and then talk about this move for quiet a while. This is not that kind of a film that should be an 18 because it will just loose the interest of audience because the target audience are people from the age of 15 to the age of about 25 even though it might be not very interesting for people who are aged over 20 because it is one of those films where teenagers get creeped out and people who are over 20 will think that this is something boring and not scary and the reason for that is because they are pass the level where you like watching scary movies. On the other hand the plot of my movie is quiet intriguing so maybe people aged over 20 would like to come and watch something like this.
So the outcome for this is that this movie should be rated 15

Draft 2

After all the feedback i got i sat down the night after and did all the corrections and i've improved to a different level of the opening sequence. So this is my second draft, it isn't perfect and not exactly how i want it to be, so this time i will look at it several times and decide what i have to do to improve this and then ask my teacher what if what i considered to be removed or aded will be fine and good enough to make it a final opening sequence.

Weaknesses:
  • Sounds and soundtracks are nor placed on the scenes where it will be better with it.
  • Some shots are just unclear of what is happening
  • No title
Strengths:
  • The acting
  • The quality of the camera
  • Most shots clearly show what is happening and where
  • On some of the scenes good soundtrack and effects
  • Good match-on-action
  • Lots of good shots
  • Good places used for filming

Feedback

The feedback that i have i got from the students in my class and my teacher.

  • First thing that i was told almost by everyone was that the whole thing is too long, which is 2.34 minutes. I think that it is long but and i didn't even finished doing it all i still have several titles to put in, so i talked to my teacher and he said that i should cut out lots of the bits that wouldn't make a big change in the opening of the movie.
  • The other thing that i was told is to add soundtrack on different part of the opening so that the audience would feel the pressure and be a little bit scared as it is a thriller movie.
  • Also i was told to make sure i have a title which i can't think of and i still have sometime to think about it because this is only the first draft of my opening sequence.
  • In several scenes there is wind blowing and the teacher and some students told me to get rid of those shots or make sure that no one could here the wind.
  • Some people told me to make sure that the music was suitable for the specific scene
  • Others said that they really like the props, the costumes and the makeup i used in different scenes
  • My teacher told me that there are some great shots but i wouldn't be able to fit all of those in to two minutes of my opening scene so i would have to cut out lots of different shots
Those thing that have been said by people who watched the first draft must be changed and improved.

Draft 1

This is the first draft of my opening sequence:

This is isn't the final thing so i need some feedback from different people to make sure that we have the same opinion of what changes i should make. Therefore i asked my class to watch the first draft of my opening sequence to tell me what should be done to it to make it better.

Titles

To find the title that could fit the movie i made a big research. The titles that i've considered to use in my movie were:
- Dolls
- The House Of Dolls
- The Girl And The Dolls
- The Revenge
- The Revenge Of the Girl
- The Sweet Revenge
- The Girl
- Girl Doll
- Dolls Story
- The Game
All those names connect to the movie but i had to choose one and the one that didn't really give the idea of what is going to happen in the movie. I chose the name 'The Game' because i thought it give a rough idea of what this movie is going to be about and it sounds quiet mysterious because the game could be anything really, it could be a fun thing because a game is usually something you play in a good way but here you don't know what to thing. The reason i wanted to hide the idea of the movie so that if someone saw the title could get interested because the word GAME doesn't really give you any ideas of what could this film be about so what the audience would do is look up on the internet or in the magazine or any type of source where they could find something about this movie and when they would it will be more intriguing for them so therefore more people would come to watch something like this.

Sound

The sound I've used in my movie were given me by my teacher which were on a CD and those soundtracks were once where you would feel tense because i'm making a thriller movie so those soundtracks were very useful for me.
The other sounds and soundtracks i took from iMovie. The sound i've used were like the door slamming or the sound when you walk.

These are called 'iLife Sound Effect' and it has really good sound that could be used in any kind of a movie.
I didn't record any voice over because all the talking i've had was recorded the way i wanted to, so there was no need in that.

Shots/scenes 3

On the other day i filmed the last part of the opening of my film and this was our last day so what we did was filmed the episode where the grown up girl (Connie Yaneva) gets the victim (Mimi Zaharieva) dressed like a doll which is shown on the video:

She is just sitting here and the grown up girl (Connie Yaneva) plays with her like she played when she was younger and when her dad took away her favorite dolls.

Shots/scenes 2

This was our second day filming in this day we filmed those scenes that were outside. There are lot of different shot and scenes we have but because there was so much walking im not going to be able to fit all of it in my opening.
The shots we did were the one that the grown up girl (Connie Yaneva) is walking and she is looking for her victim. This was the first scene i filmed:

I think for the start of this scene is quiet obvious that she work in the infirmary as a nurse because on the building itself it says 'infirmary' and the fact that she walk out in a lab coat makes it even more obvious for the audience.

The next scene i did was still outside but this time i was filming the victim (Mimi Zaharieva) walking to the place where she is going to get attacked. She is just on her phone and talking to her boyfriend and you can understand that by her saying 'hey honey' and 'bye bye, love you' (unfortunately there was too much wind when i was recoding it and there was some problem with sound):

Make up

The make up bit wasn't really hard until it came to the part where 'the doll' (mimi zaharieva) had to look like she is a doll so for that i used my make up skills they aren't very good but i think i did a good job.
This was the make up i ended up with:

To make that i used several thing and those are:
  • a vary pale foundation
  • a vary pale powder
  • fake eyelashes
  • liquid eyeliner
  • bright pink lipstick
  • bright pink blush

Actors

These are the pictures of the actors and actresses i used in my film:
Veronica Mihaleva - the girl
What she wore was a dress hight socks and a rosary.

The look i gave the girl on these two pictures was taken from films like the ring and the orphan. Their dresses are kind of from the old times and the girls look more creepy in those kind of dresses. That was the reason i chose that kind of dress for my actress that played the girl.

Connie Yaneva - Grown up girl
The grown up girl went crazy so what i had to do is to make her look weird so that she stands out by her outfit that she isn't fine and she has problems. What we thought would be the best id to put some formal outfit such as school trousers and a blouse which was in blue colour then she had the same rosary as the little girl which would give the audience a hint that its is the same girl and she had plats and the same clip on her hair as the little girl. When she was walking out of the infirmary we decided that she need the lab coat to look like she works there.

Mimi Zaharieva - as the victim
The victim was wearing two different outfits. The first one was when she was walking and the grown up girl attacked her and dragged her. In that scene she was wearing some kind of party clothes because whe was coming back from the party.

Them when she gets dressed up as a doll she is wearing a dress that looks like a doll dress and the shoes are just simple black flats.

Alastair Green - The Father
Because i need to make the actor look like a father a had to put some formal clothes on, so for that we used just a plain white shirt with a tie and a pair of plain black suit trousers which i think worked quiet well and because the guy has the beard, it make him look a little bit older.

Shots/scenes

This is the first day of us filming because one of the scene was inside and the other one was outside i decided that i want it to be filmed in two different days.
This is the first scene where the father takes away daughters toys:
And the good bit that i liked was when the dad drags her and she screams which i think was really good acting:

Credits

The credits i used were made on photoshop by me and all i did is wrote thing on black background and did several effect on the letters and this is what it came out to:

Logos

When i though if that i could make my own logo i though that i could use photoshop and some images from google. This is photoshop program that i used to make my own production logo:

And these are the images i took to make my own production logo:

And these are the final bits after i used photoshop:

All I did to those pictures was add text and some effects on the first one which wasn't really difficult and didn't take a lot of time.

Film Company Logos

These are the logos i was going to use until i came up with an idea of making my own logos.

Columbia Pictures Logo

Universal Studios Logo

Paramount Logo

Shots

There are many shots that i like in different types of movies but the favorite one that i want to use in my movie is the one when something happens unexpectedly the once that make you heart beat faster and that make you scream. There are so many of those in different horror/thriller films. For example when you watch a scary movie you are always sacred because all of the tension and the music that has been chosen for that particular moment to make it more scary. What i am planning to do is one of those shots.
Here i drew a sketch of what i want to make in my movie.

Because at the end of my 2 minute opening there will be a person dressed like a doll i want her to be sitting with closed eye and then unexpectedly open her eyes and i will try and find some music that could suit that exact shot.

Analysing AS media student's film opening

The video that i chose was a good video but i don't think i would make something like this. As I am making a thriller it is the only thing that is the same with my movie and this one. This movie is called 'S1'

This is a really weird name to make i think that the name doesn't connect to the movie but this is what makes the movie more mysterious. The shots that have been used there were really good what made me think of what kind of shots i want to use in my movie. This film gave me an idea of what i wanted to do but not as if i would steel and idea but in terms of what kind of shots i want to use or where am i going to film my movie who would be the actors, music, credits and all those things that i would have to look through before i start filming my movie. This opening made me think of everything apart from the idea of the movie because i have a basic idea of what i'm doing but now this opening put me on the right way.

Art Of The Title, 'Ginger Snaps' credits

I did this because this could help me what credits I should put in my movie. Im doing a thriller which meant that this could help. I watched  a two minute start of that movie and as there was credits coming i would write it down. This will help me decide where, when and how i should put my credits in my movie. I changed the names in credits and put mine and all people that helped me instead of people that did 'Ginger Snaps'

Story board

This is my story board.

My story board is a little bit different, what i did was i took pictures of places where i filmed my movie and when i took all the pictures I printed them out and drew all the actions that are going to be used in my movie.

Programs

The Programm I ised to make my movie was iMovie
iMovie has all the things i need which are:

  • adding music

  • adding photos

  • adding titles (text)

  •  adding transitions

There are more thing you can do, you can trim the clips you can change the colour of the clip you want to be changed. For example i changed the colour of several clips of mine to black and white for that i used the adjustment function.

It is very easy to use because you get the little buttons that go left or right and they change the colour of the clip which is easy because you can move those until you get the colour you want.

Music/sounds

The music and the sounds that I used were from iMovie that were already there. Those are called iMovie sound effects and iLife sound effects:

The other sound that I used were given to me by my teacher which i put on to my opening sequence.

Reflective writing

Today I, Kim, Janice and Charlotte made lots of different videos from many different angles that show our skills which will be really useful and helpful for us in future media studies.
While recording all the videos we learned several rules, such as 180 degree rule. The 180° rule is a basic guideline in film making that states those two characters (or other elements) in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line. The new shot, from the opposite side, is known as a reverse angle.

Panning was one of the things we learned that day as well and I think we use it quite a lot actually because we had to show this on our video so it doesn’t look boring. Mounting the camera on a tripod, simply move the camera horizontally from left to right. Pan shots are used to show the viewer more of the scenery. This technique is also often used to show views from high places, such as overlooks. Pan shots should begin with a still shot, then pan, then finish with a still shot. You should practice panning at various speeds until you find the speed that works best for you.

Zooming was the hardest one I think because we could never find the right time when to stop zooming in or zooming out because it would either me to close or too far away but you get used to the technique after several recordings. Zooming is one camera move that most people are probably familiar with. It involves changing the focal length of the lens to make the subject appear closer or further away in the frame. Most video cameras today have built-in zoom features. Some have manual zooms as well, and many have several zoom speeds. Zooming is one of the most frequently-used camera moves and one of the most overused.

We didn’t really use any angles but we should’ve because we need to practice more for making the final video for our coursework. The main angle shot that we used was the eye-level shot which is the most useful one. Eye-level shots tend to be neutral. Much like the medium shot, an eye-level shot puts the viewer on equal footing with the subject being filmed. This has none of the diminishing or exaggerating qualities of the high- and low-angle shots.
As well as recording we did editing which was a little bit harder than the first part. In the editing we use lots of things that we learned with our teacher. But there weren’t a lot of new techniques used because this was our first editing

The other thing that we learned is the match on action. A match on action, a technique used in film editing, is a cut that connects two different views of the same action at the same moment in the movement. By carefully matching the movement across the two shots, filmmakers make it seem that the motion continues uninterrupted. For a real match on action, the action should begin in the first shot and end in the second shot. This was very useful on the editing part of our day. This was something new and interesting.
The hardest in the editing was the shot reverse-shot because Kim and Charlotte spoke really fast and it was really hard to catch the right moment to stop the video and cut it in the right place. Shot reverse-shot (or shot/counter shot) is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. Since the characters are shown facing in opposite directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at each other.

Deliverance Analysis

This scene is showing the difference between people that come from different parts of town. Group of people come from the city make fun of the people that live in the mountains.  The attitude to the place and people that live in the mountains is really bad and you would never want to face people like them but the people from the mountains mocking the people from the town by saying “you don’t know anything” which are a pretty offensive thing to say.
On the other side you get the situation of a man who is really nice in the scene which shows later on because when he starts playing the guitar the child who we don’t know about comes out and starts copying the sounds that the man who plays the guitar makes but on his banjo. No one pays attention to them until they properly get into the playing everyone start looking at them and smiling because it was such a happy moment but at the same time you get a man who still makes fun of that because the old man started dancing he turned around and laughed at him which made him look very stupid from my point of view.
When they stopped playing, the man that was playing the guitar asked the kid if he would like to play another song with him but the kid turned away for the reason that no one knows and then the man that makes fun of everyone says a very mean phrase “ give him a couple of bucks “. This shows that his attitude to these people is really bad.
So the outcome of this is that different classes of people have different opinions and the people from town have no respect to people from mountains. This doesn’t only happens in the movies, it happens in real life which I think shouldn’t be going on. All people should be respectful to each other.
